Hello, Creatives!

My name is Josh Diaz from Videos by Josh, and in this video, we will be taking the Ricoh GR III Positive Film Photography Challenge. The Ricoh GR III is one of the world's most famous traditional point-and-shoot cameras. It allows you to capture stunning images while being smaller than a smartphone.

One of the camera's creative colour modes is 'Positive Film.' Enabling this mode makes your photos look like traditional positive film stock. It's a moody, contrasted, subtle profile that I love to work with.

The Challenge

For the challenge, I'll travel to a unique destination in my home city of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Once there, I'll take as many pictures as possible using only the Positive Film colour profile.

Today's location is the Caddy Shed Golf Store on Portage Avenue. This location is one of Manitoba's oldest golf stores. They sell both new and used equipment. As a customer, I've found their staff very friendly and helpful. Their location is full of character, with golf memorabilia lining the walls! Perfect for a visual challenge like the one I'm doing today.

Why Take the Positive Film Challenge?

As a Commercial Director of Photography and someone who runs a video production business, I typically work in video. However, photo challenges like this are beneficial and sharpening your timing and composition recognition skills. Besides, testing yourself and working outside your flexible production tools is fun.

As they say, creativity is born from a lack of other options. So check out the video above and let me know how you think I did!
