REVIEW

When it comes to powering your camera gear, finding a reliable and affordable V-mount battery can be a challenge. K&F Concepts has been steadily improving its offerings, and the Mini V-Mount Battery Version Two proves they’re headed in the right direction.

As someone who reviewed their first-generation V-mount battery, I thought it was decent for its price. But this new version? It’s a completely different story. Let’s take a closer look at what makes it stand out and why it’s worth considering.

The packaging for the Mini V-Mount Battery Version Two is what you’d expect from K&F Concepts. It comes in a sturdy slide-top box made of thick cardboard with foam padding inside. Along with the battery, you get a braided USB-C cable with aluminum alloy accents on the tips—a surprisingly premium detail for a product in this price range.

The battery itself is built with a combination of materials that give it a sleek yet functional design. The brushed aluminum shell immediately catches your eye, with its gunmetal-gray finish and grooved sides that add grip. It’s a step above the plasticky look that’s common in this price range and looks fantastic mounted on a camera. However, the piano black plastic on the front feels like a bit of a misstep. While it looks shiny and new at first, it’s prone to scratches and fingerprints, which isn’t ideal for long-term use. The back, on the other hand, is made of a textured matte plastic that feels durable and industrial. Personally, I think this material should have been used on the front as well, even if it sacrificed some of the shiny aesthetic.

This battery is packed with modern connectivity features, making it a great option for powering multiple devices on set. On the top, there are two USB-C ports, one of which supports fast charging, along with a USB-A port and a 12V DC barrel port. The side features a D-Tap port, and of course, there’s the standard V-mount BP connector on the bottom for those using a smart battery plate. The inclusion of two USB-C ports is a thoughtful addition, as it allows you to power devices like a camera and a wireless HDMI transmitter simultaneously—or even charge your phone if needed.

A standout feature of the battery is its hidden digital screen on the back. It blends so seamlessly into the matte plastic that it’s almost invisible when turned off. A single press of the power button activates the screen, which displays the battery’s charge percentage. When you connect a device, the screen provides additional information like the power draw and how it affects battery life. While the startup animation feels a little unnecessary, the data displayed is genuinely useful for managing your power needs.

In terms of performance, the battery delivers what you’d expect from a 99Wh, 6700mAh capacity. It takes around two hours to fully charge using the included fast charger, and it’s more than capable of powering a camera and a few low-draw accessories for an entire day.

So, should you buy it? If you’re looking for a budget-friendly V-mount battery with modern features, this one is a solid option. It’s a clear improvement over K&F Concepts’ first-generation model, with better build quality and more thoughtful connectivity options. The color display is also a nice touch, offering better visibility than the monochrome screens often found in this price range.

As for pricing, I’ve seen this battery listed between $99 and $139 USD. At $99, it’s a fantastic deal, offering features that rival more expensive options like the SmallRig VB99, and it arguably looks better. At $139, it’s still a good buy, but you might want to shop around depending on your specific needs.

Overall, I think K&F Concepts is on the right track with this second-generation V-mount battery. It’s an excellent choice for filmmakers and content creators who need reliable power without breaking the bank. Let me know in the comments: would you consider switching to K&F Concepts for your V-mount battery needs?
