Bring a Photo Camera to a video shoot

Videos by Josh is, first and foremost, a Winnipeg video production company. Through this brand, I produce various types and styles of videos for businesses in Winnipeg and the surrounding area. However, there are times when it is advantageous for the client to have some photography done. In this example, I will look at some employee dress code photography I did for Ashley HomeStore Canada in between video shoots.

Let’s take a look!

Ashley HomeStore Training Videos

Earlier in March, Videos by Josh was hired to shoot a series of training videos for Ashley HomeStore inside the Ashley distribution centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The project involved working with several Ashley HomeStore delivery drivers, getting them to show us various processes and procedures. Overall it was an excellent, well-planned shoot that went off without a hitch.

One of the arrangements was for the delivery drivers to receive brand-new work uniforms during the video shoot. This wardrobe included bright blue hoodies, black work pants, steel-toed boots and various accessories, including gloves and hats.

This production presented a unique opportunity for Ashley to develop original photography of its employees wearing the new uniforms. When I heard about this opportunity, I suggested we arrange a small photo shoot, and the brand agreed.

So I made arrangements and gathered the supplies.

Photography on the side

We didn’t have long, only an hour in the middle of the day, as our delivery drivers broke for lunch. This break was enough time to set up a small seamless white backdrop and two photography flash strobes. Knowing I would be taking photos that day, I brought my Sony A7riii camera and a trigger for the lights.

I ended up working with a delivery driver named Devin, who was happy to assist me with the shoot. Over the break, we walked through various poses against the white backdrop. We even had some time to shoot some environmental portraits in the warehouse.

This mini photo studio kit is packed neatly into a bag at the end of the day, a very flexible setup for corporate photography.

Conclusion

At Videos by Josh, I understand the importance of creating as much high-quality content as possible. I am more than happy to help a brand capitalize on an opportunity, even if it isn’t a service I typically provide.

In today’s modern creative landscape, it’s all about how much you can make and how fast. Creating content can yield valuable opportunities for your clients, and it's up to you as a video creator to make the most out of those opportunities and provide the best product possible.

Ultimately, the Ashley team was delighted with the videos I produced for their organization. The photography was a nice bonus for which the team could find other uses.
